AOL in Germany

So I'm reading this article at ESPN and I notice it says the new German NFL Europe team will play at the AOL Arena in Hamburg, Germany. Now for a minute I just keep on going, but then something hits me. Why does America Online have a stadium named after them in Germany? It strikes me as odd that a company with America in its name and happens to be a company that is struggling in America would own the naming rights to a stadium in Hamburg, Germany.

What do you think?

To me it seems to me that for the sake of their marketing they should Germany Online or GOL, but that's just me.

I think they should change the name to GOL or something too, I guess I never really thought about how America is in AOL. Germany really does like American things though, it shocks me how many American flags they have around. At an amusement park in Germany, all you could see was American flags lining the streets and at the bowling alley, it was painted in American flags. Apparently, they don't think much of it.
