Kolb Back With Brewers
The Brewers re-acquired their former closer and 2004 All Star Dan Kolb. They sent Wes Obermueller to the Braves in exchange. My initial reaction is that this is a great trade, since Obermueller never really seemed to have "it". I don't think Kolb will be a good closer again like he was in 2004 (he relies on ground balls to get outs, instead of current closer Turnbow's strikeouts), he will be a great addition to the bullpen. Kolb had a rough season in Atlanta and wanted to return to Wisconsin where he was at home.
The Brewers acquired Jose Capelan in exchange for Kolb during the last off-season. Capelan was the Braves top pitching prospect at the time, I don't know anything about him right now, let me look. Okay, BrewerFan.net says he looks good. I like this trade. We now have Turnbow and Kolb both in the bullpen along with Capellan coming along real well. On top of all of that we were able to get rid of the underachieving Wes Obermueller.
Good move Doug Melvin.
