Janesville Gazette != Intelligent

After a month the Janesville Gazette is still using pop-up ads on their website. Amazingly they have yet to mess up the fact that their paper makes great fire starter.

Hey Gazette, get a clue!

The Green and Gold Question

Dear Mike Sherman,

As a longtime fan of the team you coach I have a question for you. How are the Packers this bad? I understand that we don't have Javon Walker, Ahman Green, Bubba Franks (for all intents and purposes) and Najeah Davenport, but come on. Tonight, in case you did not notice, you got ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED by the Ravens, the final score was 3-48. Now, we have this guy named Brett Favre, and he's amazing. That should assure of us at least six wins come hell or high water, but we're not getting those wins. It appears Favre is trying too hard on the field, you should talk to him about that. Also, I understand that football has this thing called the salary cap. It seems year after year the Packers are real close to it. HOW CAN YOU FIELD A TEAM THIS BAD WHEN YOU'RE PAYING OUT ALL THAT MONEY?

Please make the Packers a better team next year (with the help of Ted Thompson) or seek employment somewhere else before a rabid fan kills you with tailgating supplies.

Your friend,
-Jeramey-

Power of Tagging

Want to understand the reason I tag all my pictures online and give them a Creative Commons license? So when I surf the web late at night I can find them being used in random places. I found someone had added a picture I took of Miller Park to the Miller Park page on the Wikipedia,

Ny photos were added to the Miller Park, Bradley Center, Lambeau Field, Green Bay, Madison and Janesville pages on 43 Places legally without me having to do anything. As far as I can tell this was all done using the tags applied to my photos and the Creative Commons license I applied to my images. So what comes of this? Simple, more exposure for my work without me having to do any more work. It's pretty cool to know when people are checking out Miller Park and such on 43 Places that they'll be seeing my photos. An unintential consequence of tagging my photos, cool.

I can't wait to stumble across other uses of my work online.

It would be nice if there were some kind of trackback feature on Flickr, so I could see what sites were using my artwork. Just a thought

Chase to 50: Bucks vs Jazz

The Bucks played hosted to the Jazz last night. This game wasn't part of my ticket package, so I opted instead to go to the MSOE hockey game. The Bucks played a decent game against the Jazz, however they failed in the fourth quarter. They're still without Bobby Simmons and Charlie Bell. Joe Smith is still on the path to recovery from his surgery. They just didn't play a complete enough game to win, failing defensively and offensively at key points in the game. Once Bobby Simmons is back in the lineup I have no doubt a lot of these struggles will dissapear.

Came into the fourth quarter tied with a chance to win it, just couldn't pull it out.

Chase to 50: Bucks vs Celtics

The Bucks went on the road to take on the Boston Celtics. Mo Williams was back in the lineup for the game, which proved to be just enough to send the Bucks over the top against the men in green. The Bucks played a solid game, shooting well from the field. Michael Redd and Mo Williams each had 24 points in the winning effort.

This win improves the Bucks to 6-0 on the road against the Eastern Conference. This is a great sign of strength. I'm still looking for big performances when the Bucks travel to play their Central Division rivals. They haven't had to play a single divisional opponent on the road yet, which I feel will be the greatest challenge for them this season. As of right now, the Bucks are on win 50 games and make the playoffs.

Chase to 50: Bucks vs Heat

This was part of my ticket package, so I was able to catch this game in person. I snuck my way into a fifth row seat for the second half of the game, so I was able to witness the true size of Shaq. This was the second time the Miami Heat have been in town this season, however Shaq missed the last game with an injury. Flashback to sometime around 1995. A young Jeramey Jannene attends a game with his father (and we can assume his younger brother too). They sit way up near the top. Shaq drops an ungodly amount of points on the Bucks (somewhere near 50) and the Bucks suffer their biggest loss ever losing by 52 points to the Magic. This was one of the few Bucks games I had been to as a kid and it helped cement a hatred of Shaq in my mind. Tonight, I thought, would be the neat I would avenge this memory and watch my Bucks destroy the monster known as Shaqzilla.

That was not to be the case. After a good start to the game the Bucks collapsed. The three point shooting was awful, with the team not making a single attempt until late in the third quarter. I will give the team a break with four players sitting out (Joe Smith, Mo Williams, Bobby Simmons, and Charlie Bell), however it was painful to watch the game. The matchup between big men (Magloire, Bogut vs Shaq, Udonis Haslem) played out to be fairly even. Bogut had a couple nice defensive plays. The battle of guards was lost by the Bucks however. With such a depleted roster they just didn't have it. Reece Gaines got some early playing time, which is a sign that things are not going as planned. The Bucks have a deep roster, which is why they were in this game in the early stages. They however managed to take themselves out of the game with their poor shooting and inability to stop Miami in the second half.

I did get to meet Gilbert Brown after the game. So if you're keeping track I have now met two former Green Bay Packers, but have not met a single Milwaukee Buck. Packer fans should just buy tickets to Bucks games to meet their favorite football players.

By the way, I didn't proofread this and I'm sure I made a typo somewhere along the way. I'm sorry (and lazy).

Chase to 50: Bucks vs Knicks

Watched this one on TV from the comfort of my room and I was a happy man. The Bucks were in control pretty much the whole game, never giving the Knicks a chance to get in the game. The Bucks shot exceptionally well, especially Michael Redd. Redd had 31 points and converted on all five of his three pointers. The team moved the ball real well and was able to get lots of good looks. Great game Bucks.

Chase to 50: Bucks vs Cavaliers

Wasn't able to get to this game. It wasn't part of my season ticket package and there weren't any ten dollar tickets available. The Bucks played a good game and were able to beat the Cavailers, despite Lebron's 52 points. As long as the Bucks are able to win games against their Central Division foes (Bulls, Pistons, Cavaliers, Pacers) they should be able to get 50 wins and make the playoffs.

Chase to 50: Bucks vs Sixers

The Bucks played the Sixers again, their third matchup of the season. They managed to pull out a win again, ensuring a season series win over the Sixers (one more home game against them on Feb 24). So they've now taken three games from one of the best teams in the East, awesome! I wasn't able to catch the late stages of this game on TV, which is sad because there was a big finish by the Bucks to steal the game from the Sixers.

Chase to 50: Bucks vs Lakers

Playing catchup in my Chase to 50 posts, I'm terribly sorry for being so slow. This was part of my season ticket package, so I made the four block walk to the game. I managed to sneak into a fifth row seat for the second and third quarter. Come the fourth quarter I managed to sneak into a courtside seat next to former Green Bay Packer Leroy Butler. IT WAS AWESOME, I was able to talk to him for most of the quarter, as expected he's a real down to Earth guy. He even posed for a picture with me after the game.

But, let's talk about the game. This is an easy one to breakdown. Both teams shot well from the floor, so that wasn't the factor that killed the Bucks. As predicted it was a game of high-powered offenses, however it was defense that helped the Lakers win the game. They didn't play exceptionally great defense, they just were able to out-defend the Bucks. The Bucks also turned the ball over far too often, especially in big moments of the game. The Bucks weren't ever able to get any big stops against the Lakers, especially against Kobe Bryant (who dropped 33).

Lakers win, Bucks lose. The final score wasn't as bad as the game really was.

Final Score: Bucks 92, Lakers 111 - Recap

Chris Pirillo put up a list of things he doesn't like about the Xbox 360 and most of them are fairly legitimate concerns that should be addressed by Microsoft.

My biggest complaint about the 360? I haven't had the chance to sit on anyone's couch and play it yet. That's not saying much though, I'm not a terribly big console gamer.

Cold

I have a serious problem. After two years of close examination, I've come to a conclusion. I am less intelligent when it's cold outside. The weather does something to my brain. My quick wit erodes without a doubt. Also, I lose a vast amount of my abilty to think and speak off the cuff, it's just not there like it is when it's warm.

Weird.

College Republicans Meeting

My good friend Dr. Scheibler was speaking at the MSOE College Republicans meeting on the topic of "The Politics of Disaster Relief", something he is, without a doubt, an expert on. It is a shame the Liberal Students Organization doesn't have their act together enough to have him come speak (or perhaps a joint meeting?). Anywho, the Republicans are on to me. From the moment I walked into the room I was greeted with "What are you doing here?" and "I see they let anyone in now." Dr. Scheibler posed a question to the audience asking (as I recall) "Who is best qualified to run a government agency?" I, of course, answered with Jon Stewart, which gathered some laughes, which then resulted in me having to dodge bullets, throwing knives, and dirty glances. I will sleep well knowing that the Republicans of MSOE (or at least those that could be bribed enough to show up) are now well-educated in the ways of disaster relief.

I have greatly enjoyed the Republican marketing tactics they have been using on me (when I say they, I mean a select few of their members). No matter how many times you guys tell me I'm not liberal (or very liberal), you will not get me to convert to the dark side.

Chase to 50: Bucks vs Magic

I'm very behind, I'm sorry. Bucks win, Bucks win, Bucks win. The Magic aren't the greatest team in the league and they were without Steve Francis and Grant Hill, ouch. Props to Dan Gadzuric for coming up big, you made up for my doubts about you earlier.

I was at this game and snuck down somewhere near the tenth row. I managed to forget the memory card for my camera, go me. I was able to find myself in the NBA TV Zap video recap after Travis Diener shot a three pointer, at least a few pixels that remotely resembled me.

Overbay To Toronto

In the second of two fairly big moves for Brewers General Manager Doug Melvin, Lyle Overbay has been sent to the Toronto Blue Jays. In exchange the Brewers received right-handed pitcher Dave Bush, outfielder Gabe Gross, and left-handed pitching prospect Zach Jackson. Dave Bush is expected to compete for one of the last spots in the starting pitching rotation, so that is a solid addition. Five solid starting pitchers would really help put the Brewers over the top, especially with the help of Dan Kolb in the bullpen now.

It is sad to see Lyle Overbay go, especially since they played Pearl Jam everytime he came up to bat, however the addition of a solid starting pitcher is too much to pass up. Overbay lacked true power (only 19 home runs last season) and wasn't able to hit over .300 for a whole season. I don't believe he was a exceptionally great fielder either (but don't quote me). As a first basemen this won't make you an All Star anytime soon. I wish they would have been able to convert him to an outfielder role, however the starting outfielders have solidified their spots already (Jenkins, Lee, Clark), and it would have been very expensive to have Overbay not playing everyday. Prospect Prince Fielder on the other hand is ready to go and I think will make a serious impact in the league over the new few years. This move cements the Brewers plan to have him hitting home runs in a Brewer jersey as the starting first baseman in the coming season.

You may have noticed that the Brewers have traded their arguably their most popular player away for the past three seasons in a row. First it was Richie Sexson in a deal that landed the Brewers half a starting lineup (including Lyle Overbay). Last season it was sophomore slumping Scott Posednik, for which we received Carlos Lee in return. You may note now that both of those trades were brilliant and have really helped put the club in a position to win games. I would think more of the same will result from this trade.

Looks good Doug Melvin

Kolb Back With Brewers

The Brewers re-acquired their former closer and 2004 All Star Dan Kolb. They sent Wes Obermueller to the Braves in exchange. My initial reaction is that this is a great trade, since Obermueller never really seemed to have "it". I don't think Kolb will be a good closer again like he was in 2004 (he relies on ground balls to get outs, instead of current closer Turnbow's strikeouts), he will be a great addition to the bullpen. Kolb had a rough season in Atlanta and wanted to return to Wisconsin where he was at home.

The Brewers acquired Jose Capelan in exchange for Kolb during the last off-season. Capelan was the Braves top pitching prospect at the time, I don't know anything about him right now, let me look. Okay, BrewerFan.net says he looks good. I like this trade. We now have Turnbow and Kolb both in the bullpen along with Capellan coming along real well. On top of all of that we were able to get rid of the underachieving Wes Obermueller.

Good move Doug Melvin.

Javon Walker Update

Injured Packer Javon Walker has dropped evil super agent Drew Rosenhaus. I was scared when he signed him over the off-season, so I'm very thankful to see him go.

Rosenhaus is of course mastermind of the wasteful "hold-out" tactic that players take to contracts they have already signed. Walker decided to buck the plan and play instead of holding out (he is vastly underpaid), however the unlikely happened and he was sidelined with a season-ending injury. Rosenhaus is of course the agent for NFL bad boy Terrell Owens

Chase to 50: Bucks vs Wizards

The Bucks traveled to Washington D.C. to take on the Washington Wizards on Friday night. I wasn't able to catch this game on T.V. so this will be a quick post.

Mo Williams hit a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer to push the Bucks over the Wizards and scored a career-high 35 points, including 17 of the Bucks final 19 points in the last seven minutes. This is Williams second game-winning shot, you of course remember his other against Indiana.

With Mo Williams coming off the bench, this is a great sign for the Bucks. Another great shooter will only take more pressure off our star Michael Redd. This of course will free Redd up for more open high-percentage shots, which should translate directly into wins.

Can't wait to go to tonight's game against the Orlando Magic, should be a good one.

Final Score: Bucks 105, Wizards 102 - Recap

The Chase to 50: 8-6, with 68 to go!
