Milwaukee Brewers Baseball

Miller Park

The Milwaukee Brewers season kicks off tomorrow. As you can read at any source for baseball news, the season holds much promise for the Brewers. For the first time in my lifetime, the Brewers have a good chance of finishing over .500 and making the playoffs. It's one of those things you wish they almost wouldn't talk about so that you're not as depressed if it doesn't happen.

For me the start of the season also signals the availability of my favorite drug. There are two situations in life that always bring a smile to my face and joy to my heart. One, of course, is the closing minutes of a close Bucks game after the opposing coach is forced to call a timeout after the Bucks go on a run. The other is the walk to Miller Park after tailgating in the parking lot and the subsequent first inning of baseball during a Brewers night game. Numerous factors create an experience like none other: the setting of the sun, the warm weather, the taste of Johnsville Brats, Sun Chips, and Mountain Dew in my stomach, and the always entertaining conversations with Chris Burrow, the low cost parking, the great (and cheap) food, my faux grillmaster skills, Langan forgetting something essential to the grill, the hot girls that always have boyfriends, the card games, the sound of Bill Michaels on the radio, the hum of I-94, the kids playing baseball before the game, the cheap tickets near the top, the 5-6-3 double play, and the crack of the bat. The memories made, the losses watched, and the winning sought.

Take me out to the ballpark. I don't care if I ever come back.
