The New Yankee Stadium
The New York Yankees are looking to build a new stadium next-door to the existing Yankee Stadium. They're looking for $215 million in public money, which some critics think could rise to as much as $400 million by the time the project is done. That $215 million is an insane amount for the Yankees to ask the people of New York to pay, they're the richest team in baseball. They have had the highest payroll in baseball for years. They have the money to spend.
The people of New York should spend that money on schools, not a new baseball stadium for the richest team in baseball.
While I see the value a sports stadium may bring to a community, I am not entirely for the spending of the public's money to build a stadium for a private company. Milwaukee's Miller Park is one of my favorite places on the planet, but I don't think I would have approved spending that much public money.
The salaries in sports are run by supply and demand laws. The public is essentially giving a boost to high salaries when they fund a stadium. Less money in the game will lead to lower salaries and more affordable tickets. Ok, I'll quit ranting now.
