Bucks Trade
The Bucks pulled the trigger in a surprising, but pleasing move to acquire Charlie Villanueva from the Tornoto Raptors in exchange for TJ Ford. This looks like a great trade, although at the moment unexpected. Ford is at the end of a deal and there was rumors that he (or Mo Williams) would be traded with Jamal Magloire for Mo Peterson and Villanueva.
This moves gives the Bucks an athletic power forward in exchange for a point guard that will always be amazingly quick but has health and size concerns. Plus Ford lacked the outside shooting touch to help spread the defense for Michael Redd.
I think the most important thing right now is the financial aspect of this trade, both now and down the road. Without the worry about having to resign Ford for big cash (Villanueva is under contract through the 2008 season), the Bucks can spend to get another point guard to go along with Mo Williams and Charlie Bell. Two of the teams starters next year will be producing great numbers under rookie contracts, which will give the team a lot of cap space to build with.
The Jamal Magloire factor is an interesting one to consider. There isn't a way I can see them keeping him. Sure, his deal comes off the books at the end of the year, (which I thought was a good reason to get him, so you can have cash to resign Bogut in the future, while mentoring him now), however, he is very detrimental to the flow of the game when he's on the court. What the Bucks should do is trade Magloire. I'm certain that will happen now with the addition of Charlie Villanueva. Magloire for a point guard would obviously be the logical deal, but I'm open to Magloire for anything athletic. It would be interesting to see what kind of offers Larry Harris is getting from other teams, because Magloire was such an obvious cancer to the Bucks on the court last year (I do not wish to speak all negatively though, off the court however he seems nothing but an exceptional human being).
There are optons now. I can't believe the Raptors made this trade. With former Suns GM Bryan Collangelo running the Raptors now he must be seeing Steve Nash in the eyes of TJ Ford.
