What's Wrong With This World?
On the Facebook there is a Campaign Issue group (users can create these and they go in a special section) named "Conservative, Christian, Pro-Life, Pro-Gun, Pro Death Penalty".
A quick examination of the name reveals Conservative Christian Life leads to Gun(s), which leads to Death.
What happened to the days when saying you were a Christian was a positive thing and you sought world peace through non-violent ways? Who decided that being Christian meant carrying guns and supporting the death penalty?
Everyday I seem to wake up in a world that claims to be increasingly scientifically skilled, however, is still obsessed with settling any dispute through the barrel of a gun. It's a really depressing reality.

Even under the most surreal interpretation of the New Testament, no serious Christian scholar could picture Jesus of Nazareth carrying a firearm or sitting passively in a glass paneled room watching the State drug a human being into eternity.

Lets assume for the moment that neither the right wing or left wing can be viewed as completely without contradictions.
The conservative Christian might say that he or she is pro life when it comes to defending the most vulnerable in society, i.e. the unborn and the elderly. At the same time, they're willing to protect themselves and society from the most depraved predators with means including the use of guns and capital punishment.
The liberal might claim to be against capital punishment on moral grounds, but refuses to recognize the 40 million children that have been aborted in the US prior to birth as life. (Conservatives see this as ignoring the most vulnerable in society while protecting the worst.)
The previous poster said that Jesus would never sit passively by during a state-sanctioned execution. Obviously none of us can speak for Jesus. On the other hand, he was crucified between two thieves and didn't take that opportunity - nor any other that I know of - to speak out against capital punishment. Prior to Jesus arrival, God instituted capital punishment in Israelite law. When we ascribe personality to God, we have to ask ourselves whether we're remaking God as we wish, or trying to get to know him as He is.
