Lifehouse Concert

I went to the Lifehouse concert with Kristin last Thursday night at the Rave right here in Milwaukee. Lifehouse has improved tremendously since the first time I saw them perform in 2001. The band has developed a great stage presence since I first saw them, something they seriously lacked early in their career. If you like any of Lifehouse's hit songs, I would recommend you see them in concert.

Massive US-Mexico Tunnel Found

Sam Nobiensky brought to my attention last night (in our typical late night conversation) that the DEA found a massive tunnel (731m long) that went from warehouse-to-warehouse crossing the US-Mexico border going from Tijuana to Otay Mesa, California. I'm absolutely certain that someone was able to build this tunnel and use it for a while (there was two tons of the mary jane on the Mexico side) without the US government noticing. Wouldn't our heat mapping pick up a tunnel like this? It's amazing to think of what kind of tunnel could be out there that we haven't found yet. What do you think?

PETA, Pamela Anderson, and the KFC

Instead of addressing the actual issue at hand (poor treatment of animals) it appears that PETA and the state of Kentucky are content to just fight about where a statue of Colonel Sanders is displayed. CNN has the story.

Night Club Incident Comes Back Around

Milwaukee Bucks fans will remember the incident from years ago where then Bucks Gary Payton, Sam Cassell, and Jason Caffey were accused of beating up an exotic dancer's husband outside a Toronto strip club. It turns out that the players now want the charges dropped because it has taken too long for the trial to start. ESPN has the story. What do you think?

Chase to 50: Bucks vs Rockets

The Bucks blew it against the Rockets. They failed to stop the top opposing player, something that has become a scary trend as of late. A blown game at home, poor shooting (37%) just isn't going to do it. It's frustrating.

A very tough Pistons game is ahead on Wednesday night, things might get ugly here for a while. Depression may be ahead for me.

I had talked about the new Dasani machine at my dorm at MSOE a post ago and Matt Luce brought up a great site about bottled water in the comments. KnowBottledWater.org

Water Bottle Machine

MSOE installed this new water bottle dispensing machine in my dorm. It's like a high class pop machine where you can see what they have in stock. It had been empty for a few days and I expected to see all kinds of water in it and people running around campus with Dasani bottles. Ironically it's now filled with Rockstar and Von Dutch energy drinks. So much for being healthy.

Chase to 50: Bucks vs Spurs

The Bucks took on the Spurs tonight. Unfortunately, one of my NBA favorites, Michael Finley, proved to be too much for the Bucks. Finley had two threes at the end of the game and was absolutely clutch from the free-throw line. The Bucks shot the ball well, which put them in a position to win at the end of the game. Andrew Bogut had a great night, but was only 1-5 from the free-throw line. Bobby Simmons had another poor night, so I'm seriously doubting that he's 100% healthy. Ford was 2-10 from the field, ouch. Mo Williams stepped up and had a good night, wahoo! Michael Redd had a typical strong superstar night, with the Bucks it's all about the supporting cast right now and they're just not there. Signs of breaking out of the slump are starting to show. We played a great game tonight against the defending NBA champions and coincidentally the best home team in the league. Any other team and this was a victory.

PHP and Slow Posting

Sorry for the slow posting lately. I had a wide open weekend, which resulted in me taking the time to teach myself how to use PHP and MySQL to design a fully-funtional website. I decided right away that instead of just learning, I'm going to do a full-fledged site to benefit if nothing else the MSOE community. I hope to make this project useful to more than just MSOE students, and I'm sure with enough work I will be able to. I've had a great amount of support already for which I am grateful for. I'm still adding features and have not implemented serious security measures as of this moment, so I'm not going to give you a link, yet. I've got the testers in there doing their thing and they're helping me learn a lot quickly. It's been a fun experience so far and it feels great to enter the "programmer's zone" once again.

If you're interested, it's all about sharing movies. More when I unveil it (hopefully over the weekend). I love the feeling of being absolutely driven to doing something that hopefully will impact so many people.

Chase to 50: Bucks vs Spurs

Didn't get a chance to watch this one. The Bucks were going to need a big game to win this one, and that didn't happen. Mo Williams showed up (finally) with some offense. The same as the Nuggets game (where Melo dropped 35+), Dirk Nowitzki was too much for the Bucks for handle, dropping 35 points on the Bucks. This was probably the deal maker, as Bogut shut down Dirk last game. Bogut was in serious foul trouble it appears (5 total, one short of ejection), I would love to see specific matchup numbers. Bogut has been in foul trouble two games in a row, which I hope doesn't become a pattern. He has avoided the fouls so far.

I hope the Bucks of the first quarter of the season show up to take on the Spurs on Wednesday night.

Chase to 50: Bucks vs Nuggets

Let's look at some simple things that continue to show up. Bucks can't shoot, Bucks can't shoot, Bucks can't shoot. This is hurt by turnovers and defensive breakdowns. The team is going to recover, but they're taking a beating at the same time.

I had this great idea for a recap, but I got sidetracked after the game. New plan, I'm going to write the recaps for the games I'm at during the game. We'll see how that goes. Less staring at the cheerleaders I guess.

Bobby Simmons not scoring early along with lackluster scoring from spark plug Mo Williams was a problem. Bogut got in foul trouble. Thankfully Welsch and Kukoc didn't see much court time together.

Chase to 50: Kukoc and Welsch

I had noticed a trend as of late with the injury-plagued Bucks. During the past couple games prior to the return of T.J Ford (I haven't caught a game since then) Jiri Welsch and Toni Kukoc were seeing increased floor-time together. I had noticed that the minute those two stepped on the floor together things started to go bad. Looking again at 82 Games my feelings have been confirmed. A quick look at the line-ups that feature both Kukoc and Welsch the Bucks come out losing (score less than the opposing line-up during their time on the floor).

I think the reason the two play so poorly together is because of their offensive positioning. They're both players that play by staying a decent distance away from the basket and neither of them are big cutters. This results in two players that aren't creating many basket-producing cuts to the hoop. Also, it's hard for them to connect on assists if they're both just floating on the outside. They fit fine in the line-ups individually, because they can be used to kick the ball back to. When they're together that drive-and-dish system seems to just break down. The return of T.J. Ford may eleviate this problem, because the pairing won't occur as often and because of Ford's drive-and-dish style.

Just an observation I thought I would share. What do you think?

Chase to 50: Bucks Tough in the Clutch

It appears the Milwaukee Bucks may very well be the best team in the league when the game is on the line this season. 82 Games, basketball statistic super site, has run the numbers and found that Milwaukee has the greatest comeback percentage and is one of the best teams offensively and defensively when the game is within five points and under five minutes are left.

Is it just good luck? I don't really think so. Mo Williams comes alive in the clutch, and there is always Michael Redd. Andrew Bogut is already establishing himself as a great player in the closing minutes of a close game.

The problem of late has been keeping the game close throughout, so that they could go for the win at the end. On the plus side the Bucks haven't blown any big leads yet. Also, look at the 2004-2005 numbers, what a dramatic turn around for the Bucks.

Chase to 50: Megapost

Playing extensive super catch-up, thanks to my prolonged lack of Internet access and time. I'll just do a quick summary of the things I have noticed.

The Bucks win when they shoot the ball well (no surprise). They lose against Central Division rivals when they can't shoot well. T.J. Ford is really an x-factor, with him they're a much better team. They need to call more post plays, and not to Magloire, Bogut and Simmons should be getting the ball in post-up situations, especially when the team isn't hot from the field. That said, I've been very impressed by the Bucks so far this season. The team is really struggling against the Central Division in the past five games, but once Joe Smith, Mo Williams, Charlie Bell, and T.J. Ford are all back to full strength we're going to be pounding on these teams.

New Orleans and Team Misery

Very interesting observation in an article on ESPN.com about the NFL Misery Index. This is the portion about the team with the second most misery in the league, the New Orleans Saints.
Forgive us for going off on a rant here, but if the NFL has so much damn money, shouldn't commissioner Paul Tagliabue take some responsibility, show some true leadership and really show a united way for the NFL? Hey, it's nice to promote charitable causes with those tear-jerking commercials, but how about actually doing something that really makes a difference? After fleecing communities of literally billions to build unnecessary stadiums, the NFL should do its part to rebuild New Orleans by paying for every dime of a new stadium. Then either subsidize Tom Benson enough money to shut him up about moving the Saints, or buy him out and have the league run the team until it's ready for another owner. New Orleans has suffered enough -- it doesn't need the richest and most controlling league in the world adding to its problems.

I like how they stuck it to the NFL, that's good writing.

Blogger Down

Blogger went down during George Lephardt's Microeconomics class, no big deal right? Well this is true for the kid in front of me sleeping. However, for Sam and I, both are websites are now messed up until Blogger comes back online. We were both in the process of republishing our sites when Blogger went down. Bummer.

This post will of course not appear until Blogger is back online, which Sam just told me is now.

Sorry I haven't been blogging lately. I've been sick and confronted with quite a few "surprise" papers. I promise to return later this week, however I sadly have lied in the past.

Here's to hoping I am back to full speed with my blogging (and blog reading) by the end of the week.

New Orleans Map

Wish I would have had this map before I went to New Orleans. Thankfully by talking to people and using the mass between my ears I was able to find most of the heavy flood damage. This explains so much though.

Thanks Dave for linking to this on your blog, I wouldn't have found it otherwise.

Note: I had to go to the link twice and the second time I had to give them a zipcode and birth year to finally get it to load. It's worth it.
